CompassPoint fundraising courses focus on developing the skills of emerging, as well as more seasoned, fundraisers. The courses emphasize an understanding of the fundraising vehicles and opportunities most widely used by community nonprofits, including individual, corporate, and foundation giving. The courses also address issues of developing an effective fundraising infrastructure—from hiring development staff to choosing and maintaining fundraising databases. We regularly schedule special offerings that respond to common questions among nonprofit development staff, including how best to approach asking a potential major donor for money, how to throw a successful fundraising event, how to involve board members, and how to build a base of community supporters.

Faculty include CompassPoint Senior Project Directors Steve Lew and Byron Johnson. Both have long track records of successful fundraising in Bay Area nonprofits and are leaders of CompassPoint’s Fundraising Academy for Communities of Color.

East Bay
