Building Successful Boards Part 2

In part 2 of this two part series, this course is designed for board members, executive directors, and senior staff who are interested in deepening their understanding of nonprofit governance and better aligning the work of the board to heighten board engagement and maximize its impact. Building on Building Successful Boards Part 1, we'll discuss board composition and recruitment; committees and task forces; board meetings and retreats; board and executive assessment, and new member orientation. You will also leave with a board toolkit which includes a set of sample templates and tools to create your first board handbook or update your current one.  Participants are encouraged to bring their governance handbook and a recent board meeting agenda for reference during the course.

This course is part two of a two-part series. Please take Building Successful Boards—Part 1 before taking this course (those who have taken either Executive Director 101 or Management Institute 101 are also eligible for this course).

Audience: This session is appropriate for board members and senior staff who are new to nonprofit governance as well as those interested in applying new strategies to existing board challenges.
