Coaching Skills for BIPOC Leaders (4-Part Series) (2022)

This is an online event. We will send login information two days before the event, so please make sure you enter your email correctly when you register!

Registration for this training is offered on a sliding scale. If your personal or organizational budget allows you to, please pay the full fee so we can keep registration accessible for leaders and organizations who may not be in the same position. Greater access strengthens us all!

This is a space for participants who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color

This is an offering exclusively for participants  who are Black, Indigenous and People of Color. We are committed to cultivating these spaces as part of our values of racial justice and centering voices and experiences from the margin. BIPOC leaders often reflect back to us how valuable it is to have BIPOC-only  spaces, so we’re broadening our offerings in response to community needs.

We hope that these trainings will invite BIPOC leaders to build power by building community, share more honestly about the challenges they face, and deepen their learning by sharing time and space with their peers. For white participants, we ask that you respect the intention of this space by registering for versions of these offerings that don’t have BIPOC-only in the title: www.compasspoint.org/workshops.

Coaching helps put into practice the idea that the people closest to the problem have the solutions. When we coach each other, we center self-determination, create space for accountability, and unlock each other’s gifts.

Patriarchy, white supremacy, and capitalism thrive when “solutions” are imposed on our bodies and our communities without our participation or consent. For BIPOC leaders especially, coaching skills can be a powerful way to bring our wisdom, experiences, and creativity front and center.

Who is this training for?

This space is only for folks who are Black, Indigenous, or People of Color. If you are looking for a multiracial space (that includes white folks), we encourage you to sign up for Coach Skills for Leaders. This is a space for people who work at nonprofit organizations and / or in social justice movement spaces who want to learn and practice basic coaching skills. This offering is not limited to positional leaders, but can be especially helpful if you’re a manager or supervisor. If you’re responsible for the growth and development of others on your team, you’ll likely find coaching skills and mindsets valuable. If you’re a leader in your organization or community helping others to reflect, grow, and tap into their own internal resources and strengths, problems, come learn and practice coaching skills with us!

Please note: This is a four-part series. Check dates carefully before you commit to make sure you can attend all four parts.

In this four-part series, you will:

  1. Learn what coaching is and how it can help you build power with others instead of over others.

  2. Ground in the “coaching mindset”

  3. Learn three key coaching skills you can use as a supervisor or manager

  4. Learn how to apply a coaching framework when people are stuck and need to move to action

  5. Practice, practice, practice!
