Conflict Resolution With Power and Privilege in Mind
This is an online event. We will send login information two days before the event, so please make sure you enter your email correctly.
Registration for this event is offered on a sliding scale. If your personal or organizational budget allows you to, please consider paying the full fee so we can keep registration accessible for leaders and organizations who may not be in the same position. Greater access strengthens us all!
Interpersonal conflict isn’t a matter of “if”, it’s a matter of “when”. Most of us avoid conflict, forgetting that on the other side of tension we can often find transformation.
When we get into conflict with each other (at our organizations or in movement spaces), we often do so without taking time and space beforehand to slow down and explore our own relationship to conflict, namely, what drives our reactions and how our approach to conflict relates to power and privilege. This is a space to learn how to shift power dynamics by employing communication skills like listening, inquiry, and empathy.
In this online workshop, you will:
Explore how approaches to conflict are often rooted in dominant culture values and start a shift toward new, more generative approaches
Examine how your own identity, culture, and relationship to power influence how you approach conflict
Identify and employ key communication competencies like deeper listening, inquiry, and empathy
Develop a personal set of principles for dealing with conflict that reflects your values and identify at least one new way to approach conflict in the future
This is a space for people who work at nonprofit organizations and / or in social justice movement spaces who want to explore approaches to interpersonal conflict resolution and develop an approach that reflects their values.
This is a multi-day event. Please make sure you can attend all dates before registering! Before registering, make sure you are familiar with our cancellation policy.
Accessibility is very important to us! If you require specific accommodations (for example, receiving screen-reader friendly versions of learning materials ahead of time), please notify us at least a week in advance of the scheduled event by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org) so that we can do our best to meet your needs. Closed captioning and ASL interpretation is not provided unless requested.
