Facilitation Skills: Creating Powerful and Purposeful Meetings (2-Part Series)

This is a live, online event where you’ll participate actively with facilitators and other participants! We will send login information one week before the event, so please make sure you enter your email correctly when you register.

Be sure to add our email address (workshops@compasspoint.org) to your approved senders list so that we don’t end up in your spam folder!

In order to build community and protect confidentiality in the space, we do not record our workshops. If you miss a training date, we cannot provide you with a recording of the training.

Registration for this training is offered on a sliding scale. If your personal or organizational budget allows, please pay the full fee so we can keep registration accessible for leaders and organizations who may not be in the same position. Greater access strengthens us all!

Planning on purchasing five or more registrations at once? You’re eligible for a 20% discount off your order total.  For more information on bulk discount eligibility, please visit our FAQ or contact us at workshops@compasspoint.org.

Meetings! We’ve all experienced what it’s like when they go wrong: conversations that go nowhere and leave people feeling frustrated. Additionally, our approach to planning meetings doesn't always take into consideration how race, gender, power and privilege show up in our teams--and so these spaces often replicate the very types of power dynamics we should be trying to dismantle in the world around us.

This online workshop is a space to learn effective meeting habits, develop skills to plan a meeting, explore how to wield power to unlock everyone’s gifts and contributions, get the right voices in the room, and guide conversations toward meaningful goals.

Who is this training for?

This is a space for people who work at nonprofit organizations and / or in social justice movement spaces with some experience facilitating who want to explore practical skills to strengthen their approach to guiding teams through meetings. If you are frequently tasked (or are just stepping into) facilitating groups in nonprofits or movement spaces, come learn with us!

In this online workshop, you will:

  1. Learn how to use the “purpose, outcome, and process” (P.O.P) format to design a meeting

  2. Learn how to center marginalized voices in meetings

  3. Learn strategies for interrupting oppressive power dynamics in meetings

Get ready to participate!

Our trainings come alive with your participation and willingness to engage. Please be ready to participate in group discussions and share your experience, creativity, questions, and challenges with us. For example, we will ask you to create a “P.O.P.” (purpose, outcome, and process) outline for a meeting, and reflect on how power shows up at your organization. We'll share visual and verbal information, make time for group discussions, and create other opportunities for real-time participation.

This is a multi-day offering. Please make sure you can attend all dates before registering and that you are familiar with our cancellation policy.

Accessibility is very important to us! Closed captioning will be provided. If you require specific accommodations (for example, receiving screen reader-friendly versions of learning materials ahead of time), please notify us at workshops@compasspoint.org two weeks in advance of the scheduled offering so that we can do our best to meet your needs. ASL interpretation is not provided unless requested.
