Liberatory Principles and Practices for White Supervisors
This is a live, online event where you’ll participate actively with facilitators and other participants! We will send login information two days before the event, so please make sure you enter your email correctly when you register. In order to build community and protect confidentiality in the space, we do not record our workshops. If you miss a training date, we cannot provide you with a recording of the training.
Registration for this training is offered on a sliding scale. If your personal or organizational budget allows you to, please pay the full fee so we can keep registration accessible for leaders and organizations who may not be in the same position. Greater access strengthens us all!

White supervisors have disproportionate control and positional power within social justice organizations, movement spaces, and the nonprofit sector. If we’re going to shift power across our organizations, transforming the way white supervisors show up is key.
This training provides tools and space with peers to deepen your commitment to dismantling white supremacy culture and practice liberatory and transformational supervision skills.
This is a space for white supervisors to reflect on and practice skills to interrupt fragility, defensiveness, paternalism, and other habits that get in the way of sharing power – without relying on Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color to do the work for you!
We will build shared commitments toward sharing power and dismantling white supremacy in our supervision relationships and across teams, explore accountability, practice designing liberatory supervisory relationships, and build on important skills like receiving feedback. We’ll also get grounded in a shared history of supervision and racial capitalism and how it links to the current context of BIPOC suppression and exclusion in nonprofits and social justice organizations.
Who is this training for?
This is a space for white supervisors who work at nonprofit organizations and / or in social justice movement spaces who are ready to take on the work of sharing power and dismantling white supremacy in their supervision practices. We strongly encourage participants to first take either Supervision: Relationships and Structures That Help Us Thrive and/or Coaching Skills for Leaders before taking this training. We encourage teams of 2-5 to register together so you can bring back collective ideas and practices to your organization!
In this online workshop, you will:
Explore what shared power is and deepen a personal commitment to it in your supervision practice.
Recognize your opportunity and responsibility to cultivate shared power in social justice and nonprofit organizations.
Identify personal and institutional barriers to shared power, their connection to white supremacy culture, and learn and practice skills to overcome them.

Get ready to participate!
Our trainings come alive with your participation and willingness to engage. Please be ready to participate by sharing your experience, creativity, questions, and challenges with us. For example, we will have conversations in small groups, use roleplay and scenario practice, and make space and time for personal reflection and creating commitments.
This is a multi-day event. Please make sure you can attend all dates before registering! Before registering, make sure you are familiar with our cancellation policy.
